The Hull York Medical School is a partnership between the Universities of Hull and York. HYMS took its first batch of students in 2003 with its first graduates in 2008. HYMS is not the first medical school at either city. Both cities had schools in the nineteenth century, but neither of them survived the changes wrought by the Medical Acts and the foundation of the General Medical Council in 1858.
The HYMS course is unusual in that 50% of clinical attachments are in community with General Practice playing a signifant role. The surgery is involved with teaching both Year 4 & 5 students. Dr Heaton & Dr. Fitzsimons are the lead tutors for HYMS at the practice. Dr. Fitzsimons also acts as a Director of Clinical Studies for HYMS
The assistance many of our patients provide in allowing students to both take histories and perform examinations on them is appreciated.
